ST. CHARLES, MO (April 27, 2020) – Travelers Protective Association (TPA)’s Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired issued 26 grants, totaling $13,600, to applicants requesting assistance during the first quarter of 2020. Established by TPA in 1975, the mission of the Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired is to provide aid to individuals that are deaf or hard of hearing for resources that will allow them to experience a better quality of life.
To date, the Trust has distributed over $2 million, benefiting more than 5,800 individuals. Recipients utilize the funding from these grants to obtain the assistance and resources needed to cope with hearing loss, including mechanical devices, medical or specialized treatment, specialized education, speech classes, note takers, interpreters and much more.
“Over the last year the Scholarship Trust for the Hearing Impaired has been hard at work providing financial assistance to families across the country who are impacted by hearing loss,” said Albert Shoemaker, TPA’s Chief Administrative Officer. “Roughly 20% of Americans have some degree of hearing deficiency and we want to make sure they are getting the help they need and the respect they deserve.”
Grants this quarter varied in size from $150 through $700, benefiting recipients from 16 states and ranging in age between four and 84 years old.
An independent 501(c)(3) organization, the Scholarship Trust accepts tax deductible donations from TPA members, posts and divisions; nonmembers, businesses, foundation and all other legal entities.
